To mark Cerdà Year celebrating the great visionary architect Ildefonso Cerdà, who laid the foundations of modern Barcelona and the urban planning focus on city expansion and transformation.

WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF BARCELONA: “STREET AND CITIZENSHIP”
With contributions by the City of Barcelona and the network of towns within the metropolitan arc, the exhibition has demonstrate the potential of the street within the context of modernity complementing the themes of the original exhibition with specific questions such as civic streets, i.e. streets where pacts have been established between the different users, the streets of particular neighbourhoods...The street will be explored in relation to its past, present and future, but also its multifunctional aspect, its capacity to evolve in a way that explains its quality, its ability to be a fundamental element of all urban times and places.

In collaboration with IVM-Latin America under Andres Borthagaray and with representatives of the universities and cities of Latin America which hosted the exhibition in 2008 and in 2009, organised scientific and cultural events and contributed to the publication of a work on the streets in Latin America with IVM.

Programme (Spanish version)
Organised by the Diputació de Barcelona and the Consorci Universitat Internacional Menéndez y Pelayo-Centre Ernest Lluch. With the collaboration of the network of cities within the metropolitan area, the Mancomunitat de Municipis de of the Metropolitan Area, and contributions from a group of photographers who will show the features of the modern street.
Free sessions: The role of axial streets, “metropolitan streets”, and of axial hubs in planning large metropolitan areas. Urban projects capable of giving them functionality, quality, identity and metropolitan potentiality. Management and governance of metropolitan streets and the question of public space.

IN LATIN AMERICA
In Spanish and Portuguese version
IN BUENOS AIRES, ROSARIO, BOGOTA, SANTIAGO DE CHILE …

After a first stop at the Palace of Ice in Buenos Aires from July 3 to August 24, where it received almost 30,000 visitors, then in Rosario (September/October 2008) at the Banco Nacion, then in Bogota (March 2009) at the Los Andes Faculty of Architecture (September 2009) and finally in Santiago de Chile, at the Baquedano, the exhibition will continue its tour of Latin America in Lima, Mexico, Medellin… accompanied by a programme of associated scientific and cultural events.

The proceedings of the Forum are published by Uniandes, 2009, edited by César Guzmán, Tania Maya, Samira Kadamani, Carmen Gili.
In Santiago de Chile, a scientific colloquy (Program – Articles and lectures) on urban mobility and social equity and a photography competition (Winning photos) were held.

In parallel, the complementary exhibition “Calles del sur” (document 1 - document 2) is shown either to accompany the original exhibition or as a standalone exhibition, as at the Casa de la Cultura in Buenos Aires (2008) or in Montevideo (2009). The exhibition included case examples of streets in Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and la Paz, together with photographs and short films by Latin American artists.

IN CHINA:
SHANGHAI AND BEIJING
Chinese version

Staged in partnership with the journal
Urban China, and presented in China from March 21 to April 6, 2008 at the Zendai MOMA Museum in Shanghai’s new Pudong district, and from May 25 to June 8, 2008, at the Museum of Contemporary Art at the Gehua Creative Industry Centre in Beijing, the Chinese version includes in addition more than 40 works by Chinese artists. These works, by architects, designers, painters, videomakers and performance, establish a “dialogue” with the exhibition themes: architecture and urban design, governance and media, along with the additional environmental topic of “green streets”.
